Program Purpose
The Emergency Nursing Developing Voices Research Fellowship (ENDVR Fellowship) supports expanded access to structured research mentorship and training for emerging emergency nursing researchers through a research project in collaboration with the ENA research team and other ENA partners. ENA developed the ENDVR Fellowship with a goal to positively impact emergency nursing and patient outcomes by strengthening the pipeline of emergency nursing researchers and broadening the range of perspectives and methodological approaches represented in the specialty.
Fellowship Duration
Successful applicants will engage in an 18-month structured research experience during which they identify and answer clinically based research questions. With the approval of the ENA research team and the ENA Foundation, the Fellowship may be extended by six months, for a total of two years, if project scope requires additional time.
Fellowship Activities
Fellows will engage in the following activities:
- Develop and implement a clinically based research project with mentor guidance
- Collaborate and meet regularly with an assigned research mentor
- Attend Emergency Nursing Research Advisory Council (ENRAC) meetings
- Participate in research discussion sessions and poster presentations
- Complete research project by agreed upon completion date
- Engagement at ENA’s annual education and networking conference, including:
- Participation in research programming
- Engage with the current and previous ENDVR Fellows
- Present results via an e-poster presentation
Financial Support
Stipend funds must be used solely for expenses that directly support the approved ENDVR Fellowship research project. Stipend funds may not be used for personal expenses, tuition, general professional development unrelated to the project, meals or lodging already covered by the ENA Foundation, personal technology or salary or wage support.
Eligibility Criteria
- Must be a licensed nurse (or equivalent) or nursing student
- Must demonstrate interest in emergency nursing research
- Be an early-career or emerging researcher seeking structured research mentorship and training
- Research line of inquiry must be applicable to the emergency care setting
Program Intent Statement
The ENDVR Fellowship supports beginning and emerging researchers by providing mentorship, training and applied research experience, to strengthen research capacity and encourage a wider range of perspectives and approaches within emergency nursing research. The program does not require applicants to focus on specific populations or patient groups as part of their research topic.
